Another WIP of my loneliness pic. I took some of the flowers out (felt it
was too cluttered)
and added some rain. I've done a few variations and put them on my website

That rain is great, care to explain how it is done?  Does it look good
with a larger render too?

I think the 'Different textures' version is very nice.

This version is a lot nicer than the one without...
May want to decrease the ambient of your stone to make it look
wet...also, I can't make out the name, partially due to the
font used...for the name on a grave, a block, easy-to-read
typeface is used.  Everything else is up for grabs, but the
name should be easy to identify from a distance.

Good rain, the whole image looks wet. Looking at the angle a which the 
rain is falling, some motion-blur on the tree leaves would be a bonus.

Of all the versions I'd prefer the one with the text diffrent textures, 
it's a bit darker and thus shows the contrast with the rose better. 
Something I would certainly look into, is the brightness of the wall (and 
the fog?). Its brightness makes it appear closer than it is. Toning down 
the wall or actually the whole backgound would add more depth.

Last, the rose's position. I think when you arrange it differently, 
starting bottom left and the flower top right on the stone, the image 
becomes "easier / more comfortable" to look at.

I cheated. It's a plane with a partially filtering, partially transparent
spotted texture

Well, now that you say it - this technique has the disadvantage that the
rain density does not increase with the distance.

    I had a feeling that this was goign to go somewhere. It did. I regularly
visit our local graveyard to tend an unattended gravestone. No that the
groundskeepers aren't doing their job, but they don't scraper off the little
bits of moss or waipe off the rainstains. They also don't stop to think
about who Shelby MCadams and her un-named newborn child (1953) were. I don't
imagine that they are there, under the dirt, but their marker is all I have
to stand next to. It is, as far as I can tell, their only mark on this
world. Over the last 20 years that I know of, I am the only one that has
brought flowers.

  And that the focal_blur shows there is not any drop on focus... I was 
just about to complaing about this on the second image, now I understand 
why. Perhaps both problems can be solved with some more planes... 

  Anyhow, this is going to be a very nice scene, Gail. I feel rain scenes 
are specially suited for focal blur, and on your scene it seems to enhance 
the theme.
