This is just what became of the Loneliness WIP:
A cold and icy landscape, a lonesome iglu, some
nice effects with media (scattering and emission
alike), a little patience for the rendering time...

Comments, criticism, anything welcome, as usual.
(Yes Peter, I'll try the lightnings soon... ;-)

Wow... impressive. Looks like a winner to me.

Keep up the good work!

Very nice - and very lonely indeed. My only criticism is that this is
not Iceland - contrary to common misconceptions, Iceland has a very
vivid landscape - one of the most inspiring places in the world.

A friend of mine made a prospect of Iceland for National Geographic -
I will see if I can get him to show some of his work online (there may
be copyright issues). He's Swiss and they have a national holiday
today, so he won't be reading his work email I guess, but maybe
tomorrow.

The ice doesn't look like ice and hence the igloo doesn't look
iglooish - although the model is good. Maybe a weather station with
just one man outside enjoying the beautiful sky all alone?

If I remember correctly it's actually Greenland that's covered with ice.
The vikings named them in reverse to protect their great Iceland find.

That's really nice! I wonder if it looks too nice though - I'm not sure
if I would be all that lonely somewhere so nice. Perhaps if it was a
bit greyer, or slightly foggier it'd look less friendly.

One other suggestion if you can manage it - wind streaks on the
landscape. I imagine a scaled texture would suffice, but if you were
feeling really clever you could alter the
isosurface/height_field/whatever to have real streaks, and maybe a
"shadow" in the streaking from the igloo.

Of course, you do know that Iceland is green and Greenland is covered with ice... ;)

Looks nice. It looks like you're using the stacked planes technique for
clouds; it'd really look nice without the artifacts.

Nope, that's media, with too few samples... I'm working on that though.

To all those whom it may concern,

I know that Iceland is not Ice-Land, and I
didn't want to give the impression that I made
an image about a region thats called Iceland.

I just needed a quick name, and ice + land is
what came to my mind, as I still think we see
a lot of ice/snow.

So, now its named "Iced Land" for the sake
of clarity.

Another thing: Though it has been the Loneliness WIP,
it no longer is meant to fulfill that topic. It just evolved
into something better and happier than Loneliness, and
I hope and guess, that this happens in real life as well.

...I wish for it, at least.

Regards,

Tim

I thought they named it Greenland because it wasn't covered with ice in
these times.

Just my 2 eurocents...
