I suspect you set extinction low. It looks unrealistic to me because there's
more light reflecting off of dust than there is visible dust.

I think he means that the amount of light being reflected suggests more
dust than does the amount of light filtering through to the wall. IMHO
you should lower the density of the media and add something like a
turbulent-bozo density pattern to make it slightly more splotchy.
