I haven't posted here in quite some time. I've been spending a lot of
time modelling armour for the poser chars in Rhino.
Below are example shots of the armour for Vicky (fully posable) and for
Mike (currently not posable)
Comments?

Were these rendered in POV?
You know, there's absolutely no historical precedent for boobly armor.
It's not effective. The purpose of a breastplate is to shed blows...
by molding breasts into it, you're actually drawing sword strokes into
the center, where they'll do /more/ damage.
Besides, breastplates aren't so closely fitted that they need boobs
molded into 'em... I'd know, I used to do the SCA heavy-armor and ratan
thing.

It looks very good; very impressing work even though I don't know your
sources, I'm sure the armour has taken a rather big effort to create.
I have the evaluation edition of Rhino myself but I'm unable to do anything
complex with the program. The interface doesn't seem to work in a simple
way, and I much prefer simple tools to express my art. (I'm not saying POV
is simple, but the surface ... feels like home to me, because it's about
programming.)
When you say "poseable" I don't know what it means.. Is Rhino able to
animate character - shapes?

Hugo

"modelling armour for the poser chars in Rhino"
He uses Rhino to model armour for the Poser characters. In case you don't
know Poser is a program to pose (whee) and animate characters. Great program
btw, too bad I only have v3 which you can't add clothes (armour) to.
I had to read it twice to understand it too ;)

Isn't Gail Shaw a 'she' ? Hmm, it's not easy to find out who is who,
worldwide. :o) Thanks for the info about poser (cheaters program).

Imagination, ADnD, fantasy books. The first set took about a month
to get right, the second about 2 weeks

If you're interested in learning it there are a lot of rhino tutorials on
the renderosity
site (www.renderosity.com) That's mostly how I learnt Rhino

As Peter noted, the posing is done in Poser (version 4)

Yeah, but this is fantasy (and hence anything is allowed) Besides I'm hoping
to sell this when it's finally finished and that's what the demand is for
(some
of the 'armour' models I've seen on sale are worse than useless (thin strips
of metal with sharp edges and usualy the abdomen left bare)

sounds fun. Got any photos of the armour you used? I'd be interested in
seeing the real thing

Take a look at Christian Fletcher's stuff...
<http://www.christianfletcher.com>; he makes practical armor for modern
knights.
