Taking into account your valuable feedback from my last post, I made some
minor changes, and I'm posting two versions:

1. Less noise, and used the technique described by Kari Kivisalo.
2. No noise at all

I believe the noise is subtle, but it does add a bit of realism.

Which one would you choose? Is it still better without any additional noise?

Fernando.

The one with the noise looks awesome! Great realism!

These images are making me hungry for gobstoppers or gum balls....

The noise is more subtle than I had thought it would be, compared to
the "noise-free" image. However, I still prefer the ones with a little
noise added.

Thanks Peter! I'm now working in another image... I'll post it soon.

Thanks again,

Fernando.

Yes, I also think it was very subtle but it does improve the realism.

Thanks Glen,

Fernando.

I prefer the one without noise. Because noise is a temporary problem of
real-life cameras that will soon be long gone. But photos will still look
realistic. So a realistic raytracing shouldn't depend upon tricks like this.
It's even possible a noisy picture will be "irritating" for people in the
future. Though we think it's an enhancing effect.

True, very true! Though, minimizing noise isn't the same as eliminating it.
We've been able to diminish noise successfully, but I'm not sure how much
time will have to pass before we can say the noise is low enough to be
undetectable.

Let's hope we'll converge rapidly to that goal :)

Fernando.

It's funny, when I saw your marble images, I remembered doing something
similar before (about 3-4 months ago), and I finally found the picture. I
don't recall basing it on any images, but it looks very similar to yours.

I wanted to fix the horrible lights, but never got around to it. I should
have made a window like you did.
