Ok ... after I got the idea from Dave Brickell I decided to try myself ...

Here are 10000 spheres placed, without intersection ...
My problem: 43mins parse, 2mins Render (rendered at 1600x600 with AA0.0)

thats why I started a thread in p.a-u ...

As I stated, its WIP, but feel free to comment ...

My two complaints:

1. you can see the edge of the spheres. You should make them go out farther
than that, and make sure you're placing them within a circle instead of a
square, that way if we *do* see the edge of them, it will look more natural.
Maybe consider reducing the density farther away.

2. make it so the camera isn't looking parallel to the lines on the plane.
Just, like, rotate the plane by some random number like 27 degrees around
the Y axis.

Just add some focal blur to soften the far away ones and reduce the number

The original one was like this, and I think it will look better as it is.

Nice work Jan ;)

I would suggest using variable reflection on your floor as this will negate
the need for fog.

Happy Tracing

Dave.

So did I.

Mine has 50.000 spheres
No problem: parse time < 30 seconds

Look there for my posting.

So long,

I like this one! It has a special feel.
And the render-time is impressively low.

OK ... here's the one I did overnight ...

12000 Spheres, Parsing ~50mins, Trace 3h
Tracing was done in "My" Desktop-resolution, 2560x1280

I prefer the first one.. In this one, everything is more phycko wild.. My
eyes are forced to the focal point, my balance is tipping ... I'm falling
aaaaahhh.

The first one was like a soft landscape.

Hugo

A beautiful image, but it makes me feel a bit woozy so I won't use it as my
background :-)

do you think, adding more FocalBlur would soften it, and make it better ?
