I worked on this image since the first beta of povray 3.5 came out, with a
long wait for a photon bug to be fixed, but I eventually found a workaround.
350 fish, some spherical bubbles, thousands upon thousands of sphere sweeps
for the seaweed, an f_ridged_mf for the normal of the water, and a heckuva
lot of media and surface photons. About 40 hours to render the 1400 x 1050
version, although I set the priority down to do other things during the day.

Really great look for a start (ehm, not a start).. :o) The water surface and
the scattered light is perfect! Even the rendertime doesn't look too bad,
considering that you used a big resolution.. I just saw some real scenes in
TV and this is very close! Except the bubbles - those close to the camera
are very strange, I'd say not transparant enough.. The fishes are too few,
and I think there's a problem with the scale of them vs. the bubbles.. I
know some fishes are small of course, but my mind suggests - for the sake of
a great picture - they should be a "more heavy ingredient" in this picture
..and perhaps more bubbles.
That said, I'm still very impressed by the water and the green stuff !

Of course, those -could- be really small bubbles...

Great work as always slime! Only thing that I think detracts from the pic is
the bubbles. They look too hard, almost like they're metallic spheres
instead of bubbles.

Yeah... I know. I think the largest of them are supposed to be about one
inch in diameter, maybe a little smaller. But I liked the spherical-ness of
them nonetheless =)

Great scene!
I was going to suggest you to try using meshes for the seaweed instead of
sphere sweeps, as I believe it should speed up the render time
substantially. Last time I used sphere sweeps I was surprised of how slow
they render.
Also, I don't like very much the spherical bubbles. As others have noted,
bubbles going upward in water tend to have a "jellyfish" shape.
Other than that, it is a very well done scene. Congratulations,

FYI, I think the bug you're talking about is finally fixed for the next
beta. :-)

Oh good =)
If it's the "photons make the scene too bright" bug, then that's the one,
but I found a workaround by increasing the gap between the surface of the
water and the actual media.
BTW, when is range_divider going to be documented? It's just sitting there
in the documentation, teasing me... it probably does some silly useless
thing, but I keep wondering if it holds the solution whenever I come across
photon problems =)
