Because space ships are science-fiction and not fantasy. A large part of the
appeal of science-fiction is seeing or reading the artist's hypothetical
future use of known or theorized technology. Good science-fiction exists in
a universe that is understandable and justifiable. It is this limitation
that makes science-fiction interesting.

Hmm...good answer. I still like the use of colours for this one
though. I can imagine it being possible with some aliens.

The look *is* interesting. All that is needed to make it more convincing is
one technological rather than fantastic looking piece. It would be pretty
easy to add a rocket for this purpose.
