I havn't played around with povray in a long time, but i had an idea for an
animation after watching The Twillight Zone inbetween classes last week.
Anyway, the animation would need an eyeball if I end up doing it. So after
about 30 minutes of playing around, i came up with this. I tried to avoid
all the detail in the colored part of the eye for now, but tried hacking it
with an open cone inside the eye with a texture. it didn't turn out how i
expected, the cloudyness on the green is the result, as the green is really
just color rgbf <0.59, 0.78, 0.59, 0.73>

does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the white part more
glassy/gooey looking? currently there is a partially reflective partially
transparent, kinda bumpy sphere over it all. it made the color part look
glassy, but not the white.

not sure about the blood vessels, but they aren't *bad* i guess.

all in all, i'm pretty happy with the 30 minutes of work. its all just a
bunch of intersections and differences.

peace,
ross

Doesn't look too bad, maybe try to deform it slightly using scale or
by making it out of blobs etc.

A couple of years ago there were lots of eyes done round here, so I'm
sure that there will be some really decent stuff that you can use that's
in povray.binaries/text.scene-files and also see the images in this group.

I'm not sure when exactly this was, but there was big clust of the done
all within a month or so of eachother as people swapped ideas to get
the perfect eye.

Eyes aren't normally very bumpy, except for the lens part on the front,
which is only one bump anyway...

I had what I thought was a pretty good one a while back, don't remember
if I ever posted code for it or not. I used two turbulated radial
patterns to do the blood vessels, and another pattern on top of that to
make the blood disappear closer to the pupil (or something liek that)...
As for the finish, try using faint variable reflection on the eyeball to
give it a glossy look (this works for ceramic mugs, too, but I digress),
and don't forget to put other things in the scene for the eye to
reflect! (..or else you won't see the reflection and all the white being
reflected will just wash out the edges without really contributing to
the scene). My eye also had a fleshy coating which might have helped the
effect by providing a contrasting finish; whether this is possible or
practical in our case I have no idea.

I did something similar myself a few years ago.
http://students.oc.edu/stephen.bell/oldcompart/compart09.html I mostly just
used radial patterns and layered textures. I realize it's nothing too
special, but if anyone wants the source, I could probably scrounge it up.
