Hi All
I've had just over 2 weeks to finish this for a bookcover which is why you'll
recognize some of it. Everything except the Poser
figures has been modelled in Rhino, all image maps by me. There's a lot of Post
processing, all the mist, stars and the symbol as
well as some gentle tinting of the background. There's rather a lot of space at the
top, that's for the title.

Nice, but in the very near foreground, where you look at the water from
nearly above, it should be more transparent and less reflective. Do you
use fresnel reflection?

No, not this time I wanted to keep the foreground water opaque. I was more
concernerned about the way in which the corners fall away
due I think to the 80 degree angle. Time has been the enemy here!

But you are aware that this is not realistic?

Yes, that's typical for large angle perspective cameras, smaller angle and
more distant camera or a different camera type might have helped.

When I first saw this scene, I though, "not bad, poser models,
height-fields, typical stuff." Then I scrolled down to the bottom and saw
how the lilly pads set off the entire picture and thought, "Wow! Damn! this
guy is a MASTER of color and contrast!"
It was only after the energy of the colors in the scene grabbed my attention
that I took the time to notice the interesting details like the butterflies
and the nice stones on the coast. I want to see how color and font is used
in the title and hope that these elements work to the advantage of your
cover art.

Nor is the subject matter!
Frankly I'm not interested in using Pov to create realism only to create images that
satisfy me. I will only worry about realism
when it is important to the scene.

But it really doesn't look right this way...it looks more like a dull
mercury than water, and the areas where the water covers the leaves look
very strange. There are other ways to make the water more opaque without
messing up the reflection. You could use media or attenuation to make
the water murky...

Maybe a different camera type would avoid this without messing with the
image too much.

I have used both and I like the effect!

Nice idea, beautifully realized. Congrats on the bookcover gig.
