I thought this was such an original idea for this round. Then I saw Tom Melly's
image, Doh! Well I'd already been working on this for a few weeks so I decided
to carry on any way.

It's a bit of a change from my usual style because the main object in it has to
be made by hand rather than procedurally generated. Still, I'm happy with how
it's going so far. I plan to add a bit more detail to the wardrobe and lighten
up the nearby trees, but I'm starting to run out of ideas. I've also started a
second image that I might submit as well, so most of my creativity is directed
towards that one :)

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Great image!

The footsteps are just sooo perfectly in line that it screams CG. Well,
perhaps not screams, but maybe a little deviation in the path would make it
so your eye wasn't drawn to it right away.

I love the snow that creeps halfway in the closet.

This is very different to Tom's image. Your foot prints look real, and
I like your trees a lot, but you need snow on those trees. The wardrobe
door looks very ordinary, and in a way tastelessly decorated which adds
to the realism, you'd expect to find a wardrobe like this in any old
house in an ordinary street in an ordinary town.

The design of the wallpaper is a bit too modern, make it a bit more
flowery, and try to dirty it up a little.

They do have snow on them, kind of. The pigment turns white towards the top of
the tree (though it looks grey because something's gone a bit strange with the
lighting). I can easily adapt my code that sprays snow into the wardrobe to do
the same onto the trees so I think I'll do that.

That's exactly the effect I was after :)

Good point, I'd forgotten about that. It's still just using a pigment I created
in 5 minutes as a placeholder.

Good suggestions, thanks.

I think that problem is partly caused by the snow surface being perfectly
smooth. I think the footprints look better on the snow that's near the wardrobe,
because it's a blob with lots of particles in it. I'll play with it and see if I
can improve it.

And maybe I'll and a bit of randomness to the position of the prints, they
currently occur exactly once every 25cm :)

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sure, I'll provide source with my competition entry. But if you can't wait 2
weeks I'd be happy to explain any specific effects you like in it.

I confess I haven't done my research! :) The one and only time I read that book
was when I was at school, at least ten years ago. Anyway I felt that the
wardrobe should be eminently ordinary, so I just tried to create my mental image
of an ordinary old wardrobe.

Get some new textures for the wardrobe and floor. The wood looks
conspicuously like a noise pattern.

I love the footprints and the snow, though. The scattered snow at the
edge is nearly perfect.

Nice looking shot, but the dresser needs to be incredible to pull off an
imagie like this. I like your dresser design a lot, but it needs wear and
better texturing. Snow is excellent as are trees.

Yeah I agree. The wood used on the wardrobe in this shot hasn't been tweaked
very much, and the varnish on it really needs work. I plan to add some subtle
dents to put wear on it. At the moment it looks way too much like simple CSG
(which it is!).
