Hi there,

I re-defined the age-to-colour mapping, changed the aging structure along
the wing and removed the glossy reflections from the leaves.

The I noticed why the thing always look so like plastic: there was no
variation in the colour of the leaves. All leaves followed a strict
algorithm in age and therefore in colour. Adding some random variations and
make the young leaves at the wing's tip clearly light-green brought IMO a
better result.
Now it has a healthier colouring but still looks realistic.

What do you think?

This looks asthough it's outside, I'd expect to see it inside the foyee
of a hotel or a Post Office in Spain, not outside, it looks far too
delicate to live outside.

Fern is even more improved. The blue background really cuts it up in a bad
way. A busy pattern behind the fern might show it better in test shots.

Hi Rick,

Hm. I wonder what the right green would be? Do you have a photo?

Meanwhile I saw so many different colours even for the same fern "style" so
that I can't tell anymore which colour a fern has or should have. I saw very
light greens, medium ones and very dark ones.
Bob sent me a link to fern pictures where I found even more colouring
variances than in my neighbourhood....

Anyway, a "colour-style" is to be implemented in the fern macro.
BTW: I'm about to rewrite the "Leaf"-macro to allow a big variety of leaf
shapes to create a lot of different plants using the same macro. So you all
can relax: no more fern pics for the next time. Thank you very much for your
patience and feedback!

I think some highlights would be good for the finish, it looks too dry as
it is right now. A realistic environment would be extremely important to
get the right color.

I know and therefore the fern stuff is suspended for now. I concentrate now
on the other participants of the scene (while rewriting the leaf macro to
get more plants).

Unfortunately I have only few hours a week for POV and the test renders on
my P200 take ages. Mostly I can do one larger trace a week..... :-(
