Modelling in wings. Uv-maps created with uv-mapper and lithunwrap. The
textures suck (made in gimp) but for me the modelling part is more
important.

First try with Jaimes light macros (not that it's noticable, I haven't yet
fully grasped the idea).

Comments?
Criticism?

Has a kind of wet terracotta flower pot look to the texture. Maybe some
shininess, not much but some wide and soft highlighting would do well.
Guess it's the clay pot look that makes me think it is inanimate instead of
alive. Those eyes are real neat, environment reflecting slightly in them
would be good to I think.
The head model itself is nice as is (if I didn't keep thinking it's a
relative of Jay leno's that is. ha! sorry I said that).

Looks good so far. The eyes are great as others have said.
A little work on the mouth and nose and the addition of ear structures
should finish him up.

Also, looks more like an alien than a creature to me.

The bump map I just grabbed from my small library of GIMP experiments :)
The skin has slight specular but it get's lost in the slight variations of
red.
I thought about adding some reflection (to the skin also). But what kind of
an environment should I use for a floating head? hehe

And I just toned the chin down a notch ;)

You get "blind" of your own mistakes after a while. Could you be more
specific about the mouth and nose? Image references or something.

After taking a second look at the nose, I think I was wrong. The structure
of the nose looks correct, but the red pigmentation makes the nose appear to
change too abruptly at the tip. In other words, the nose does not appear to
widen as it goes down.

The upper lip appears to curve out too sharply. The creature appears to have
a very narrow set of teeth for the width of his jaw.

Also, the chin it too big, but I know you fixed that already.
