Just got done running another go at some POV clouds. I took all of your
comments into consideration. I darkened the cloud base. I randomized the
size of the clouds as well. The larger clouds give more influence to the
gumdrop equation and thus have flatter bottoms. I also used the cloud
equation for the media's density so it fluffs better on the edges.
Notice the time difference between this post and my last cloud post. That's
about how long it took to render ;)
Looks very good. Clouds maybe a little coarse, like a close up of
cotton-wool. As part of a full scene I don't think that anyone could
find fault. But I guess with render time increasing as the square of
quality (?) I would have given up long ago.

Unless my OE5.5 has dropped some posts, 24 Jan 2002 was your last? A
10 day render? Wow!

That was a bit of an exaggeration. I did two full quality renderings since
that post. Using media method 3 increased my render time by about a day (2
and a half days total) so I changed it back to 2 (1 and a half days total).
The render time is horrendously slow but I'm willing to accept it for the
realism and quality of the clouds. When I do a final render I probably
won't use as many clouds. I'm also going to divvy up the render across 10
or 12 PIII 900's in the dorm's basement computer lab.
