I noticed that several people here have remarked that adjusting the contrast
in pov images, especially ones using Radiosity, can have some dramatic
results, usually looks much better. Here are some links to images I've done
in which I've used auto contrast in Photoshop to improve them, the imprved
images end in CON, what do you think of the changes? Should I make them
perminent?

Wow! Those contrast adjusted pictures are significantly better. Is there
way to adjust the scene or renderer from within povray to produce the same
effect without the need for post processing? I always thought many povray
renders came out looking a little gray. This reminds me of dearmads post:

Could povray's contrast be in need of some adjustment overall? Not just in
radiosity?

This highly scene specific adjustment and the best tool for
it is an interactive image editor which is much more useful
than any automatic guessing option in povray.

I found a scene in the POV-Ray 3.5 Beta demo scenes in
scenes/textures/pigments called transmitfx.pov that shows the use of a disc
as filter to get some effects. One disc makes a higher contrast. If the disc
is near the camera it can affect the whole scene. But I think it has to be
adjusted to every scene.

Just my two eurocents,

Bonsai

The "contrasted" version looks a bit too bright. In this case, I'm not
sure it's a good idea as it brings out artefacts in the focal blur -
especially on the nearest ball.

Nice.

Subtle, but better.

Definitely!
