Folks:

This is an image of an "Ogre" .. For a picture see
http://www.projectrho.com/ogre.html or see http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/ for
info .. basically, large cybernetic tanks. (Think Bolo by Keith Laumer as
well).

The sky is just a simple gradient and a cloud sphere - nothing fancy. I'm
using Moray so I just did something simple. For a proper still life, I'll
use a media cloud or something.

The suspension 'was' articulated until I hit an issue with Moray rotating
references around the origin, but I'll probably fix that soon.

There are no tracks on 'brutus' yet - I'm using a macro to do the tracks
and the rendering time will take forever. This is a test render to see if I
have modeled the overall look and feel. I probably need something for a
sense of scale.

Most of the tank is CSG.

  Comments?

I think you definitely captured the feel with the shape of the tank. Needs
more guns.

Does it roll on little wheels? It does not look like a tank-chain... I will
have a look at the original photo's...

No, the track is missing (as noted) ... I'm looking at a couple of Macro's
to do the tracks with.

There are four sets of treads in both of the 4 tread groups. The wheels
have a slot in the middle for the sprocket.

However, the tank supposedly could 'blow' the treads and drive with motors
in the road wheels.

Due to the high stance of the thing, I had a real problem with the
suspension, so this is also a test of the suspension components.

P.S. Thanks! I'll have to see what the Ogre miniatures people say ...

Thanks!

I actually have the 'correct' number (exactly) although the funny thing is
that the miniatures have 'extra' AP guns (the small guns, anti-personell).

Two main guns, 6 secondaries, and 12 AP's. However, the miniatures show 6
ap's in the rear with the 5 on each side (as shown in the image), so the
total is wrong. I posted a note about this to every Ogre board but got no
responses on it. My solution was to reduce the number of rear AP's.

Here's a photo of the miniature Ogre:

http://www.sjgames.com/minis/ogre/C1/img/cover_lg.jpg

I was going to do a Mark III next (one main gun) but if you want more
guns, maybe I should do the Mark VI (three main guns, oodles of other junk).

I need a good crater HF texture I guess to do an action shot ...

Right, where's me hovertanks? About 300 should maybe have a chance
against one of those things. ;)

Oh, and what Mk. Ogre is it? I can't spot that sort of info by eyeball.

Bye for now,
     Jamie.

I'm actually going to do a heavy tank next, then a GEV (Ground Effects
Vehicle / hovertank). I think a GEV would look pretty neat if I can get an
iso surface or media 'dirt trail' to work right.

Oh, sorry, I posted that with another pic, forgot to here ..

It's a Mark V; 2 main guns, 6 secondaries, and 12 AP's. (this one has 12,
the miniatures have 18 oddly).

The Mark V, IMHO, looks the best - the Mark III has only one main, so it
looks less menacing.

I could have used that tank in 'Urban Assault'!! ;)

A lot of work has gone into your image, very nice.
