I wasn't going to but I decided to fix up the scene a little bit and add a
bit of atmosphere.
Here is the results, (just over 1h render).

Very Good. The inscription is on both the inside and the outside of the
ring according to The Fellowship of the Ring. It kind of looks like the
beams of light are going into the ring as well, but that's probably just
the reflection.

Yes, that's just the reflection.  Right now the entire inscription goes
around the outside of the ring.  It was easy to get the light going out, may
be difficult the other way though.  I may be forced to figure out how to do
this now (I didn't really want to.)

I just saw the movie - at one point, you do see inscriptions on both sides.
There's also a scene where you can see the letters on Frodo's face, like
laser lettering.

Once nice effect is that the lettering 'melted' into visibility.  Hard to
describe .. it was sort of blotchy around the ring.
