That's neat. Ought to difference a hole into it where the beam hits like
it's surgically cutting into there.

What do you mean? Presumably, that's the shadow as calculated by POV and
hence accurate; maybe what you're referring to is the fact that the arm's
shadow isn't visible, which is probably because the light source is in such
a position that the UFO's shadow obscures that of its arm.

I think he's referring to the fact that the shadow is completely black and
completely sharp, which is not realistic. I agree that the shadows suck, but
the UFO itself is very nice and even realistic in that toony kind of way. :)

No I mean I wouldn't expect to see a shadow like that, try using
area lights in that area of the scene.
