(actually, you could send me your source and I'll render my move)

Black has no pawn at A2 (perhaps you meant A7 to A6?).
By the way, could it be a good idea to organize a povray chess match?
The principle would be everyone vs. everyone. That is, people would vote
for the next move (regardless of which side has the turn) and the move that
gets more votes is performed. The next move is concluded by rendering the
chess set with that move (and then the voting for the next move begins).
The rendering would look like this http://iki.fi/warp/pics/chess.jpg

#macro N(D,I)#if(I<6)cylinder{M()#local D[I]=div(D[I],104);M().5,2pigment{

Depends on how you number things; I thought the layout was
A B C D E F G H
+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+
1 | R | N | B | Q | K | B | N | R |
+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ Black
2 | P | P | P | P | P | P | P | P |

3 | | | | | | | | |

5 | | | | | | | | |

a2a3 is perhaps a white move...
I think the best black move would be here 5...d6 (pawn move).
Very nice picture.

Actually white starts from rows (or ranks) 1 and 2 but looks like
we're getting a bit off-topic here :)

After the match has finished you could then animate the whole game!!

How do we get rid of the taken pieces?
Explosion?
"Transport"?
Fade to glass, union the 2 pieces, then fade out the old?
The square turns to water and the piece sinks?
he he could have some fun with this.
