The ship's a Rhino model that I've been modelling on and off for a few
months.
finished it last week and spend most of the weekend getting the uv-mapping
correct.
Planet is a modified venus map from nasa, nebula is from Chris Colefax's
galaxy include
Still need to model the opposing side's ships.
Comments?

Cool ship.
Not sure the lighting is right for space though. I think ambient should be 0 for
space.
Keep up the good work.

This is just another case of reality not looking good. So some "fudging" is
required to make the ship look better.

Very nice. Excellent ships, remind me of 1960's comic book
starships. Rhino is so good for smooth curved surfaces. One thing
though, the ships being upside down almost makes me dizzy :-)

I think it is not "fudging". Ambient should be almost zero in
space because there is no atmosphere. Ambient is actually
a fudge itself, if I understand it correctly (and that is likely not
the case), it is sort of a poor approximation of global lighting.
In the case of space there ought not be any.

Reflected light would exist though even if no ambient light, although we
don't know if a bright moon is behind the camera.

I think you missed the point. The real world of space is not
filled with good images: too many harsh shadows, too much contrast.
To make a picture that we might think of as pleasing, we have to
use unreal situations. So the use of ambient >0 is not a reflection
of true conditions in space, but helps to set the mood for the image.
Call it artistic licence, call it setting the tone, cal it romanticizing
space, it is as the artist wanted.

Reminds me of a boomerang..
Very nice modeling-textures-etc.
And no, I'm not going to ask for the source :-)

Oh, I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying
that zero ambient was fudging, but you were actually saying
