Hi all:

This is the final model of the Torii I was working on.
A lot of things have been corrected/added.
Now it's time to begin working on the textures.
Comments ?

It seems to me as though there are two main textures that need to be worked
on - the red cylinders and the red planks.

I don't know what kind of materials a torii is made from but I assume wood
so you need a good plank normal with a paint finish (Glossy or Matt?) for
the planks and a tree trunk texture with the same finish for the cylinders.

Under the current lighting the roof and symbol look okay but I think the
lighting of the scene needs to be improved - have you considered using
radiosity and area lighting rather than a point source. This may affect how
the roof appears

Good! I've used Google image search (very nice!) and got some real
pics of torii, some of them in "easy to model" situations:

  http://www.bunbun.ne.jp/~sword/Torii.jpg

Also, I found this one, not too dificult to model something similar,
and it's very nice:

Actually, now there are only 2 materials in the model (well three if you
count the image
map with the dragon, that comes from an image sent by Mael to this
newsgroup),
the red one (a red pigment with a bump normal) and the black one.

In an extended research I've done in the web, I've found that there are
toriis
made from wood, stone, metal. I'm still wondering about it, but I think
that,
maybe, I will make it from carved stone.

There are no lightning adjustments in this image. It's made with one
pointlight
only for testing purposes. But the scene where the Torii will be is
beggining to
grow in my mind, so... I don't know where will it take me.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Jaime:
The last link is the image of the Torii I took as reference for the model
(from another perspective). Now I see the little columns are too close to
the big ones in my model. Maybe I'll change it, even though I like the
model as it is. And I want to begin playing with materials. ;-)

Not exactly what I was planning to use, but thanks for the link.

Keep in touch.

Bye
