This is my coliseum version II.  It is scaled to the measurements of the
actual coliseum in Rome... 615 feet long, 510 feet wide.  The center arena
was 175x280... thus an eliptical shape.

I produced this by creating two half shells at the diameter of the larger
size and then shoving them together to produce a width of the smaller
dimension... it created an eyeball shape with pointy ends...  Next phaze is
to create the ends at the thinner diameter and push them apart to the longer
dimension... this should keep things more eliptical.

And NOW!  Eliptical... on to the finer details like doric/ionic/corinthian
columns for each level... and we can't forget the awnings to shade the
audience from the bright sun... and finally, the emporer's special viewing
box...

High detail exterior bay for my coliseum.... I've used 4 different colors in
the attached renders...

T_Stone2 (Brown), T_Grnt16 (white-tan), T_Grnt24 (gray), and T_Grnt15
(black)

Which color would make the best blend for the outside of the coliseum...
avoiding the obvious match to actual colors.

I'm very interested in how you did the columns: especially the upper 
parts of the several styles: Ionic, Doric, Corinthic (spelling?). I 
would love the see the code for these... :-)

If you make the thing elliptical by simply scaling a round amphitheatre,
the bays will vary in width.  Do you correct for that?  (Does the
original?)  Circumference on an ellipse gets hairy, so you might want to
approximate the ellipse with 4 circular arcs.
