I'm thinking of adding some picture frames on the wall, though I have no
idea what to put in them, and perhaps something on a table. I don't want
this to become to complex though, the centrepiece of the image is the
lighting and I don't want to distract from that too much.

How about adding only the picture frames, with nothing inside them?
I think that would fit the scene nicely

It's not a texture, it's a heightfield used to simulate the look of a rug.
Same with the ceiling.

Funny I actually thought of doing that but thought it might look too odd,
I'll have to try and see how it looks.

Or, you could choose something and run it through a sepia filter, thus sort of
camouflaging it.
