Everyone has to model her at some point in their POV-Ray career, especially
if they've got any Trekkie blood in 'em. :)
Completely modeled and rendered in POV-Ray 3.5 for Windows.

Nice pic Scott.
I must tell you though that posting very large PNG files is not very
appreciated on this newsgroup. You should convert your images to JPEG first.
Welcome abroad anyway, and don't hesitate to post your pics, (in JPEG :-)

After some of my attempts, I say you have very well. Good job.

When do you expect a C&D from Paramount's lawyers?

First of all, my abject apologies for not including the total file size of
922 KB in the message title; if there is a newsgroup administrator who could
add that info I'd be grateful.
Arthur's comment refers to a much earlier (and more primitive) version of
the Enterprise that I posted in here about 18 months ago; this version is
(imho) a vast improvement over my first model. I really didn't know very
much about POV-Ray when I completed the first version, and it shows in the
modeling mistakes I made. This version is much more highly-optimized, uses
almost everything I know about POV-Ray (which ain't much but is still a lot
more than 2 years ago), and it renders almost 10x quicker, making it
actually usable for animation work.
Rick, I'll take the C&D comment as a compliment ;)

Hi Scott,
where did you get the wonderful earth that can be seen on
http://scottgammans.com/cgi_enterprise/iss_tiberius_test_019.png
?
Is it a sphere with a photo wrapped around?

That is indeed a POV-Ray sphere wrapped in several rather large (as big as
4000x8000) Mercator projection black-and-white and color images of the
Earth, which are available at the NASA website. All in all I use four
different mercator images to make the Earth: one is an exaggerated relief
black-and-white image that I use as a bump map for the landmasses, another
is a two-color black and white image that is used as a landmass mask for the
specularity texture map on the oceans and lakes, yet another is a image
that's nothing but the cloud layer, and finally there is a large true-color
image of the land, water and icepacks.
