Folks:
Okay, so you *can* have too much of a good thing.
It's a bit overkill, but I threw this together
last night while tinkering around with models
for distributing objects evenly over a surface.
This uses a simple radial distribution for the
tiles at the bottom. The pattern was inspired
by Gena's filter technique of a while back.

That is really cool. I love mosaic patterns. It took me a while before
I noticed the face. Have you tried to find the limits for tile size where
it still looks good? I would really like to see that with haxagonal tiling,
or with some water in it.

Perhaps the same method could be used to make a stained glass effect??

Ben:
Thanks for your ideas. I'd like to put this in
with a larger scene, but I am rarely successful
in creating one. It seems like all I ever manage
to do is put together something quickly before
being dragged off into work and normal life.
I'd like to figure out how to do stained
glass, with irregular glass tiles separated
by leading. I think that I actually have a pretty
good idea of how this would be done.
I played around a bit with tile size. Yes, it
looks better with smaller tiles, but the rendering
time was so long ...
