One thing I'm noticing in some of the more pleasantly realistic images is a
"fogginess" that softens everything.
Mind sharing your finish/fog/lighting code?

I think that's just good old focal blur, with some nice high quality
settings, used sparingly and in the right place focal blur can do wonders
for photorealism.
