I have been rendering these during the last weeks in several parts, didn't
record the render time, but it was quite long.
Posters of the full size renders are available on zazzle:

The simulation is done with my mechanics simulation patch (still in work,
see the animations in p.b.a.) - guess how many spheres...

So you're not going to try it as a blob? :)

This looks great! I too would like to see the animation. When you say "quite
long time" I suppose you mean hours for the calculation of the balls? If so,
this must be because the 3 frames need to calculate all the steps
in-between.. So an animation would be faster.
The laws of physisc suggests that the pyramid would collapse on it's own.
How did you make it stand and still blow up realistically when the big ball
hits? Maybe this is very simple. But I wonder how you implement the laws and
at the same time, not implement them.
As always, I'm looking forward to see your system is released.
Regards
Hugo

Bah, it's not the simulation that's slow but the rendering.

It is, you just have to throw the ball fast enough to hit the pyramid
before it collapses. The pyramid balls are standing still at the
beginning while the large ball is moving at high speed. The whole time
covered by the three pictures in not even a second.
