Added more texture especially to the background. Added another light to
highlight the silver bowl.

Very Nice!
Love the detail on the silver 'cup' (not sure what the correct term
is)

I like this. Very good, and excellent silver. Nice work Jim.
Are you going to try your hand at any other 'Old Master' paintings? I think it's
a great idea to gain experience using PoV - it would be a nice challenge.

Yes I may be tempted again though it sometimes seems like hubris. It
can be a pleasant learning exercise because you are guaranteed to get a
result of some degree of fascination. Both the appeal and the
frustration is that ultimately there is not a photorealistic endpoint to
aim for. Appealing because it gives some wiggle room; frustrating
because as you approach the limit of realness, you have less visual
reference and must rely on your own judgement. It might also be
interesting to work the differences between the raytraced outcome and
the painted, to push the raytrace down a quite difference path, the
original painting being something of a seed, if you will. Anyway I have
alsways loved still life. I painted still life continuously for about
fifteen years. My very first raytracings were copies from Morandi.

I can understand this after your painting for many years. I agree though, with
your other statements, and that experience with PoV can be gained in this
fashion - I think I'll give it a try sometime, it will be fun for me.

And I like this idea. It could be quite interesting to try out too.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Jim:
I really like this image! Yet, there is something unsatisfying
in the glass that I cannot quite put my finger on. Maybe a bit
less reflection? Otherwise, excellent work. I especially
appreciate the 'stamped metal' look on the underside of the
metal goblet/chalice/grail thing. The detailing elsewhere is really
magnificent.

Hi Aaron, another New Yorker! I agree about the glass, I think its
surface needs to be dirtied up a bit. I used a very mild dose of
blurred reflection on the metals, but when I tried it with glass it put
my 'puter right in the tank. The render time is 13 hrs as it is on an
Athlon 1.67 I think I will try to transparency maps on the glass perhaps.
