Well I started this as a way to unwind after my last irtc entry. Not
sure quite what is the appeal of reconstructing a master's painting.
There is something vaguely archaeological about it.
Approximating the objects and their placement was relatively easy, which
is a credit to the observational powers of Peiter Claesz. Figuring out
the lighting is trickier, and texturing is probably very open to
interpretation.
This was all csg or iso's.

You know, you're going about it wrong. You're supposed to approximate
the physical *brush strokes*, not the objects they represent...;)

Excellent interpretation Jim. Well done just for the effort, I like very much.

Great, great work. i like it very much.
To give some constructive criticism
I've just seen the original painting and I think you'll need:
Some pointlights with FP and FD.
Photons
The wall, with the technique made by Jaime Vives or similar would
improve the picture a lot.

Thanks for your enthusiasm.
The version visible at
http://www.kfki.hu/~arthp/art/c/claesz/roemer.jpg
is distinctly brown in color. The version I was referencing from a book
shows the painting as much more greenish, such that it seems a harmony
of delicate grey-greens and greys, building up to the green of the olive.

Not sure what you mean here. I am using two spotlights so far. One is
also an area light, the other is pointed at the wall

Would love to. Tried without much success though.

Yes I think I will play with the wall and in fact the whole picture some
more. Because of the hybred reflective textures, the render time is
quite long however.
