Erm... It's got potential - I'm not quite sure why but the composition
as a whole doesn't quite sit comfortably for me. I think it's something to
with the fact that the central containment thing looks like a part of a
larger whole, like a component of machine, but then the tangled mass in the
background looks very un-structured and then there's just void beyond
that... Maybe if you moved the tangle back, maybe made it a tangled wall
behind, maybe spherical, or better toroidal (sp?) with the containment
'thing' (sorry can't think a good word to describe it) in the center and the
tangled tubes sprouting out of the top and bottom and then curving and
tangling round to form the outer wall of the torus...

Eh -- well ... I thought it was quite good, even excellent, for the genre.
It reminds me a bit of an H.R. Giger work, although a little less
grotesque. I'd like to see the whole thing render out.

From a technical standpoint, it would be interesting to hear how
you did the metal pipes.

My humble suggestion: Uncheck the "Keep single instance" option so you can
work on something else, set the render priority to lowest, and forget about
it until it finishes sometime next week. Unless, of course, your computer
crashes before then, or it's sucking up all the available memory, or...

It's cool! But... you are aware that running a final render with mosiac
preview is a *huge* waste of time, right? the final pass redoes nearly all
of what the first passes did.

Yeah, but I like to get a general idea of what the final pass is gonna
look like, especially when the final pass takes a day to do 7%...

Oh, I have it on low priority and do other stuff during the day, and
turn it up to normal at night and close everything else...I just don't
like being able to really do high-end stuff (using the scanner, burning
a cd (actually burning a cd doesn't really need me to pause the render),
playing Terminus, downloading anime from the newsgroup a.b.m.a ...)
while POV is even at low priority.

Strange, that's what I was pondering, too...have the inside of a sphere.
Don't quite know how to do that gracefully, though...and I want it to be
monumental...

While Giger is a great artist, his stuff is too phallic for my taste...O.o

Would you believe a) they're not metal, they're glass...ish? it's why
it's taking so long. :P and b) the background is a single sphere sweep
with a few hundred randomly placed points and random sizes, occupying a
200x200x200 unit space beginning a few units beyond the chamber.

Get yourself a secondary PC and install Linux on it...Even lowly Celerons
make
good candidate for render mini-farms.
