I've pondered a long time about this one. I've also watched alot of your
works come about in this newsgroup.

Allow me to show mine off... there are no people in the scene, which is
supposed to be dreadfully odd, and so it is. I'll take any suggestions
on how to get this thing out on top. I don't want to come in 60th again
when August 31st comes around. Any comments would be GREATLY
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

where does the wind come from? it's kind of early for me, but it seems that
the main sails, the front sail and the flag are all experiencing different
winds??
also, the oars don't seem to be supported by anything?
what is the sail-like thing on deck and the oval shaped object to the front
of that? shouldn't they fall down?
oh, and finally what is the blurred thing at the back of the boat?

whoo, that's a lot of criticism, but I hope it helps you... I really like
the pic

So trees moving to and fro actually *create* the wind? I hadn't realised. I had always
thought
that it was changes in atmospheric pressure that created winds, and it was these winds
that
blew the trees. Doh! Do I feel stupid!

;-)

All the best,

anywayz, what I meant to say:
what direction is the wind coming from and what direction is the wind going
to and what is the effect of that wind on the sails and the flag
The fact that wind is being generated by a ventilator in a large hot-air
balloon, sponsored by the U.S. government, is really not the point here. :)

Some of that movement may be in response to the snapping of the forward
mast. Or the rolling of the ship as it sinks. Dosen't have to come from
from any wind at all.

It hasn't snapped (me thinks)

>Or the rolling of the ship as it sinks
take a look at the flag. if the rolling of the ship (which I think doens't
go that fast) influences the rotation of the flag it would be positioned in
the -1*rolling direction (or something close to that). it's rotated in a
completely different direction though.

Actually, now that I think of it, judging by the waves, there's not much
wind, judging by the flag though there is. There is an influence of the
velocity of the ship, but I don't think it will be going that fast. Either
there should be more/bigger waves or the flag and sails should catch less
wind.

You did a good work modelling the ship, but in my opinion, you have to work
an the sails a bit. They look as if they a infinite thin surfaces, which is
not realistic. In addition their shape doesn't look to realistic.

It's hard to get what you want to achieve by the contrasts in your picture -
the water is quite flat and suggests, that there is no wind - the sails blow
as in a storm. The little boat (Don't they have larger ones on these kinds
of ships? Would take ages to bring all the people on board one by one.) lies
still in the water, but the ship is sinking. For what reason? The sky and
the light does not look stormy. why is the ship breaking? Why is that mast
(correct word?) falling down, if there is no storm?

I can imagine that this contrast is intended, but I think it has to be
stronger to be believable. For now it does not look intended.

The image as is leaves many questions, but I think it's promising. You'll
have to emphasize one think or another, but you did good work so far.

I'm actually impressed with that motion blur effect you've got going. I agree
with others those. Something as simple as a stormier looking sky and some waves
in your water would help give credibility to the events taking place.
