The lighting definitely needs improvement, and I think this would be a good
scene to practice lighting on, since you could probably do a lot with it.

I'm not crazy about the red stripes underneath the red pillars.

There are no "Red stripes" the pillars go all the way to the floor, they're
just square from the walk-way to the floor.  The lighting looks really good on
my computer, I don't want it too bright, just the effect I was trying for, but
I haven't tested this render on any other computers yet.
There will be a ring of candles on the floor in the final image, but the
candles take an extremely long time to render, and I have to turn on photons
to get them to look right, which slows the render down to a crawl.

I agree it looks quite nice with a gamma of 1.2.
