Hi,
I did this knife as a logo for a software project some friends doing.
It's called Swiss Army LDAP Tool (SALT) and so we needed a pocket knife.
All modelling is done by hand. The source can be obtained over my
website (see signature).
Comments are very welcome and needed.
So long,
Bonsai

Some really good modelling, but the metal texture looks more like plastic,
so have a dig around there's some good metals in the pov include files, or
have a play yourself. It looks brand new at the moment, so try to tarnish
the metal a bit and give it a few scratches and maybe even an oilly finger
print on the red section somewhere.

Thanks. I used a texture from metals.inc. Maybe my environment is not
good enough to let it look like metal. The top of the box around the
knife is mostly white. And the lightening might be wrong.

It was ment to look brand new for the logo. The used look will be
definitely better if i use the knife again in an other scene. I'll play
a bit with the textures...

I think the modelling is excellent. I agree the blades look kind of flat but if
you're using the same metal texture there as you have for the corkscrew, then
its probably your lighting, or maybe you just need a really bright full ambient
object to reflect on the blade edges so they glint a little.

I used T_Chrome_3E from metals.inc in my first post. I think it was too
reflective. The attached image is a short test rendering that uses
T_Chrome_3C. I changed the texture of the surrounding box to a sky
texture. The blades look a bit better now. The original scene has a box
of photos of my flat around the knife to simulate a real environment.
But the ceiling is almost white so there was nothing notable to reflect.
Now I'm testing my knife in the scene balcony.pov from
scenes/advanced/balcony/ but this will last a while. I'll post the
result when it's done...

The reflections "do" help add depth. Looking forward to seeing it on the
balcony.
