Hello everyone! I just got real internet access this yesterday
afternoon, not
that constrained library or work-computer access either. I can actually
post things without looking over my shoulder to make sure my boss isn't
watching.
Anyway, here is an image I made last summer with MegaPOV .5. I was
thinking of what a next-generation building block toy might be like and
came up with a design that lets you connect pieces no matter which way
they were rotated. I didn't take the idea any further than the simplest
block type. I imagine many different kinds of special blocks could be
created using the basic design.
Block was made in Rhino 3D, exported to pov and traced with radiosity.

That is very impressive as always when it comes from you! Well I haven't
seen that much from you, but I look forward to seeing more. This picture is
very imaginative and the colours shine in a non-typical way for CG... It's
saved to my personal POV gallery.
Regards,
Hugo

Got your email today thanks, and I will respond shortly.
As to the bricks, nice image, but they can't fit together as well as
"Stickle Bricks". While looking at your image I thought of particular
needs with a building project that would require a bit more flexibility
or utility.
Can't find a link with good closeup images for "Stickle Bricks", so I'll
have to render some:-))

Are you talking about those dog brush shaped blocks? They're kind of flat,
with an even number of bristles on one edge, and and odd number on the other
side? I hated those things when I was a kid. They would never line up evenly
and I always felt like I was playing with hair care products.

The radiosity adds a lot to this image.
Go get a patent on the block idea =)

Impressive image!
I have no sense of scale though.
Initially it looked to me like the blocks were about 20x20x20 cm or
something like that (rather big), but on second thought they could just
as well be much smaller.

Yeah, the camera angle is too wide and it's postition too low.
