Been using povray on and off for a few years. Currently im on.

Bought a print of eschers 'ascending and descending' and thought, 'I can
do that'. So here is what i have so far. Though initially I had intended
to do the whole image, im thinking of moving from the flat colour and
find_edges look here, to a more realistic looking image, and just
incorporating the illusion...

I think lighting might be a problem, ive shadowless lights and radiosity
will also destroy the illusion.....

Don't take it as a discouragement, but iirc this has been done - hang on....

Yes, look for "Eternally ascending" posted by Reusser on 29/6/2001 in this
group....

Not bad for a start, but the stairs going up to the platform with the
columns looks a little low.
You might be able to fake the lighting problems with light groups if you
look at the new beta

Its progressed a bit, though i think ill need to so something wither
with the lighting or the textures. To preserve the illusion, the
rearmost stairway does not cast shadows, and this makes it seem a little
flat. Ive fiddled with light_groups a bit, and i cant figure it out.

Is there any way I can get a light to cast a shadow of object A on
object A, but not on object B? This is hurting my head :)

I think you could make this object so you can fully rotate and
examine it; just take into consideration the fact that the
stairs aren't really going up.

Lookin' better!!
Can you move the light so that ALL of the individual steps cast shadows?

Also, the outer ridge loks cool but can you add it to the inside as well?
