So, I've begun modelling a gerbera flower. This is actually
only my first approach, so lots of suggestions are very
welcome.

There are 50 large petals and 1500 small petals on this
flower, each on is the same, but differently scaled. For the
final version, I want to create all different petals, so
I'm devising a macro for that as I go along.

The petals are attached to a two-component-blob,
but that is only a filler, so that you cannot see behind the
petals. I want to model something more accurate for
the final, but I'm sticking with the petals for now.

If anyone can give me some detailed information on
how I could calculate normals for the triangles' vertices,
without having some end up pointing out- or inside, but
rather all outside, and how to do that accurately at the
borders of the mesh (which is actually a X by Z sort
of mesh, e.g. a piece of cloth wrapped to fit the form
of one half petal), I'd be grateful. I wanted to do
some surface retouch (actual displacement of the mesh)
based on the normals, but couldn't get them right.

So, suggestions and comments are all welcome.

The flower is very nice.
I've got a macro that will sort the normals for a N x N mesh if you would
like it. Input is a two dimensional array containing the vertices.

Yeah, that would be cool. Is it commented well
enough, because I'd actually like to go through yours
and then see what I can do myself?
(Sort of letting your code explain the job, and
then writing it itself, that's how I work most of the time)

I'll clean it up and e.mail it to you tonight. I'll add some comments and
rename the variables as well.

Thanks very much!

This is one of those days where you see that the
newsgroups are the best place for POVers to
go...

Shay admitted he'd have to clean up:
