I don't know to which thread this message belongs but let me say one thing:
The fern stuff was also created on a P200!
It IS possible to do reasonable things on an old CPU.

LOD = Level Of Detail
A shortcut I used to describe the reduction of triangles in meshes and
simplifying the textures for fern leaves which are too small to show all the
details. This reduces parsing and tracing time which is (as Peter mentioned)
essential for slow CPUs (as mine).
