I am working on a picture that is going to need a large ammount of
grass, and I also wanted to put trees in the scene. I am at this time
using the mgrass and mtree macros created by Gilles for the effect but
the grass is getting too expensive too early and I was wondering if
there is any way to reduce the ammount of memory used by the grass/trees
as I've already got pov-ray set to use that most ram I can give it
without upgrading my computer.

How funny. I've been posting a series of images in this group just a few
weeks ago named exactly "cheap grass". The end result was an include file
which you can get here:
http://rsj.mobilixnet.dk/3d/include/include.html

It's not a perfect solution in all cases but give it a try and let me know
what you think!

It says the include file requires pov 3.5 which I removed from my hard drive
because it kept crashing my computer when I rendered anything. I was going
to wait until beta 5 was released to see if the problem had been fixed, but
it's not out yet...
