I've been working on lots of half-baked ideas, but this one looks cool 
enough at this early stage that I had to show it off.

I actually plan to use this for a forest, but it was easier to build funky 
mushrooms. I'll mostly use it for still images, but I figured an animation 
was a good way to see how the growth spreads with the generations.

I've been thinking about trying to model mushrooms myself... One of the things I
wanted to simulate was the way the cap starts out as a bulb and then breaks open
at the bottom and spreads out as the fungus matures.
