I presume you mean something like this:

    #ifndef(MyBigFatUnion)
      #define Blah = ...
      #define Dunno = ...
      ...
      #persistent MyBigFatUnion = union {
        object { Blah }
        object { Dunno }
        ...
      }
    #endif
    object { MyBigFatUnion }

That should indeed work fine.
