Hi,
I'm having trouble getting beta 29 to run on my 32 bit Windows XP machine.  I've
downloaded and installed v3.6, then installed beta 29 into a different folder (I
just accepted all the default folders).  Now when I try and launch the beta from
the desktop shortcut that's created, a pvengine-sse2.exe process is launched,
consumes 50% of the CPU for about three seconds, then exits again with nothing
to show.  The 3.6 version runs fine. I've had a look over the threads here but
I can't see an answer to this issue, unless it's something Chris Carson
mentioned in an off-hand way about a Logitech webcam dll causing interference,
though I've never installed one of those.

I'm at a loss as to what to do!  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both
the 3.6 release and the beta a few times but that hasn't changed anything.  I
need the beta to work because it's required by another piece of software I'm
running (Chemical Computing Group's MOE, http://www.chemcomp.com).

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

What type of processor are you running on?  Does it support SSE2?

I'm not familiar with their software, but it's odd that it would require
3.7 which is not officially released or supported yet, and not 3.6.

Intel T2500 Core Duo, so yes it supports SSE2.

Further to the above issues, I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP
Home, then gradually reinstalled the various bits of software I was running
until the problems with POV-ray occurred again.  It turns out that the issue is
caused by Google Desktop, and it's beyond simply GD running: if I exit GD, POV
beta 29 will not start (either the SSE2 version or not).  If I uninstall GD,
then POV beta 29 will start and run successully.  POVray 3.6 is unaffected by
GD and starts successfully regardless.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had GD screw up so many forms of software, even when it's not running 
and only installed, that I recommend to everyone that they uninstall it 
first and see if they have a problem. :-) Email, web browsing, wiki servers, 
blog handlers, even things like shared whiteboards and VoIP applications get 
screwed up.

I'll admit this is the first I've heard of it messing up something that 
doesn't even touch the internet, but maybe it's replacing other libraries or 
calls as well.
