The binaries of the following build want to be tested on Windows XP
(both 32 and 64 bit):

https://github.com/POV-Ray/povray/releases/tag/v3.7.1-alpha.8764097

Only basic testing needed, to make sure they run at all.

Warning: did not find colors.inc...
Did not load GUI extension.
Basic scene ran without problem.

Is that a symptom you also see with previous development builds?

It looks like every time I start pvengine32.exe
(3.7.1-alpha.8764097+av168.msvc14.win32)

It creates a new "pvengine.ini", resetting changes.

Does this help?

pvengine.exe, 3.7.0.msvc10.win32, does not do this.

pvengine.exe, 3.7.0.msvc10.win32, updates the date modified of
"pvengine.ini" each time it's run, but keeps my changes.

example:
ExtDLL16=C:\Program Files\Bishop3D\Bishop3DPovComm.dll

To re-iterate my quiz question:

Is that a symptom you also see with previous DEVELOPMENT builds?
E.g. this one:

https://github.com/POV-Ray/povray/releases/tag/v3.7.1-alpha.8737777

I need to know if this effect is something I've introduced with the new
build procedure, or whether it's a pre-existing bug introduced earlier
during development.

If you see the symptom with 3.7.1-alpha.8737777 as well, I might ask you
to also try this one:

https://github.com/POV-Ray/povray/releases/tag/v3.7.1-alpha.8451792%2Bav100

And if the 3.7.1-alpha.8451792 doesn't have it, I'd like to ask you to
try releases in between (excluding those marked "experimental"), to
narrow down where the error was introduced.

If you have the time of course.

I have many of the builds, maybe some experimental, ops.

8451792 av100 not valid
8558038 av124 working
8586521 av129 not valid

8737777 av158 not valid
8764097 av168 working, missing color.inc

working through more.

That's seriously odd, as the build process hadn't changed between the
latter two.

I presume that "not valid" means Windows XP is claiming the .exe to be
not a valid XP application, and that you're making sure to run the
32-bit version, right?

The testing is for pvengine32.exe only, not "-sse2"
Both can run on my computer.
Athlon64 X2 Dual, 4200+, 2gb ram
WinXP sp3 (Media center edition)
