Just tested a pure radiosity, no light_source, scene with the latest beta.
Everything that have an ambient of zero is black. Looks like radiosity is still
broken or disabled.

Yes, I wondered if there had been a change in the way it gets invoked, can't
find anything about that possibility.
I noticed the render statistics does not show it, and I can't tell if light
or vista buffer is being used. I tried turning those off and on but the
render options in the message stream doesn't say anything for those either.

Yes, I tried the scenes\radiosity examples. No radiosity shows in the
rendering or messages.
Not sure if related but I also tried switching light or vista buffer on/off
but those aren't listed in the render options of the message stream.

Sorry for the repeated replies. POV had crashed and took the newsreader with
it so I didn't think it got sent the first time. Only now getting back to
giving POV beta 15 another look again.
Reason for the crash-- or, rather, more like a soft crash-- was apparently
due to pretrace_end value being too small. I was trying to make changes to
the pretrace to see if it had any affect, the render stalls and eventually a
runtime error is displayed after closing the program.
I believe this is the same pretrace problem (pretrace_end less than 1 pixel)

What a surprise given nobody claimed it had been fixed...

I've seen this listed now as part of the "known issues" on the download
page, however it has not been in the changes.txt file itself. Could be that
people are mistaking the "Radiosity support is still alpha quality" in that
text file as meaning it is actually functional to some degree.
I also notice this changes.txt from the beta 16 zip I downloaded, probably
very near to its release, only tells of beta 14/14a and 15 differences yet
nothing about 16.

Which it is, but only under very specific conditions, and only for a very
specific part of the radiosity process. Plus, iirc between when that
statement was made and now there was a new problem introduced that nobody
had the time to track down yet, but that further degrades the visual results.

It is working again in the upcoming beta 17 (not working correctly, but at
least working).
