Request to everyone testing POV-Ray 3.5 beta:

Please go through the officially unconfirmed bugs and test them again to
see if they still happen.
It could also be really nice if some bug still happens, a short and clear
way of repeating the bug could be provided. If the bug is questionable
(ie. could be just a design decision), a concise and clear explanation of
what is wrong and how it should work.

Bugs which are not properly confirmed will just be removed from the list.

  Officially confirmed bugs:
  -------------------------

* Macro bug (job000146)
(POV can dereference a deallocated pointer if you return a local from a
  macro. Causes POV to crash.)

In an ini file, Bounding_Threshold must be set to 0 for the bug to show up.
When doing this, the bug happens for me consistently. When setting
Bounding_Threshold to some higher value, the bug doesn't happen. For a scene
file I use a completely empty text file.

I'm using beta 15 on Windows 98, Athlon XP 1700+.

Can anyone confirm? Can anyone not confirm?

This was in the fixed bugs list, but it's not fixed in beta 15. (The sample
scene still shows the problem.)

I did, however, find that if I increase the space between the two nested
objects to 1/10 of a unit, the problem goes away. That's acceptable for my
purposes (thankfully), but the problem may still be worth looking into.

Ah, so you want bounding of no objects in the scene to bound "nothing"? :-)

With this information I can confirm it: As bounding of nothing is "unusual"
the code assumed the threshold is positive. This will be fixed in the next
beta. The Bounding_Threshold will then be adjusted to its minimum legal value
of one (together with a warning message) automatically.

This means that if there's less than 1 object in the scene, the bounding
will be turned off, right? I also seem to remember that in animations, the
first frame of the animation determines if bounding is turned on or not for
all the frames, even if there are more objects in the next frames.

So, if Bounding_Threshold can't be set to 0, and one has an animation where
there's no objects in the first frame, then bounding will be turned off for
all the frames, thus causing a major slow-down.

If the above is not correct, I apologize, but if it is, then I think a
better solution should be found, like evaluating the Bounding_Threshold in
every frame instead of only in the first frame.

Yes and no :-) It was a bug in 3.1 that has been fixed in 3.5 a long time
ago.

Ah, good! I thought it was a "feature".

is still there.

I just tested it by using a scene with many photons to delay the display of
the render window until after I could minimize the editor.

can't recreate

still studied probably

verified by Rune, fixed by Thorsten now probably

I can confirm appearance of bright line. I have changed camera location in
example to location <1+clock, 1.7, -5> and started animation.
I have rendered with +FN with standard settings 800x600, AA 0.3.

Note I have repeated this behaviour with matrix also (coded rotation)

What about recompilation of 3.1 with the same compiler and settings as current
betas to verify compiler issues ?

still appear, hard to say what it is

At first I think originall report needs some changes. First instead multiplying
coordinates of camera probably scale sc should be applied at end. Second
light_source should be also scaled with sc to recreate the same exact world.
Anyway I think it is EPSILON problem.

since example crashed after 7 hours on Athlon 1 GHz, 512 Mb RAM
I'm probably not the best person to check this with poor PII 233 MHz, 128 MB

So nothing to confirm probably (but still exist)

Can't confirm becouse no such enviroment possibilites at this moment

Can't confirm becouse lack in knowledge.

this is not fixed in beta 15
when +GAout.txt is used then cpu time not appear in stream

Warp asked to "Please go through the officially unconfirmed bugs", not through
all bugs... ^^
