(POV-Ray 3.5 beta 11 on Windows 98)
Yesterday I must have closed POV-Ray when it was minimized, and today when I
started it up, I could not restore it. When I left-clicked on the taskbar
button, the button depressed but nothing happened. When I right-clicked on
the taskbar button, I didn't get a context menu. I tried to close it with
Ctrl+Alt+Del, and it said "This program is not responding". I closed it
anyway, and started it up again. The same thing happened.
Then I remembered the strange things that used to happen with modal dialog
boxes being displayed when the window was minimized. I started POV-Ray
again, clicked on the taskbar button, and pressed Enter to try to close
whatever dialog box was displayed. It worked, and I was then able to restore
the window.
I have a feeling the problem this time is the new about box, which I've
occasionally seen displayed on startup in the recent betas. If POV-Ray
starts up minimized (which I still think it should never do, but anyway), it
needs to make sure that no modal dialog boxes are displayed.

BTW, I just made a simple test application that displays a modal dialog box
while it's minimized. The dialog box was actually displayed on the screen,
and I could close it and then restore the application. Why doesn't it work
this way in POV-Ray?

Something similar happens sometimes on my windows system (Win98SE) with
other applications. They are minimized, but I have to use the context menu
to maximize them. When it isn't possible to use the context menu (due to a
modal dialog), this lets the application perhaps crash. So I think it's a
problem of windows and not a problem of POV-Ray.

In future (beta 13 or later) POV-Ray will not minimize itself when restarted,
even if it was minimized when it exited.

POV beta 12 on Windows 95 Compaq PII 266 with 64M RAM.
Exact as reported above, but for me this happened on install, at the end of
the install I say yes to a sample render, then minimised the windows and
proceded to do some other work, the sound played when the render finished,
and a message box appeared so I clicked on it and continued with what I was
working on.
Later on I noticed that there was a POV icon on the task bar it wouldn't
open, no context menu so I tried to end the task, and when I rebooted
the icon was in the taskbar again and also wouldn't respond.
A reinstall fixed this, so I tested it a third time by installing and
minimising the windows at the end of tthe process, and the same thing
happened again.

I too can confirm. I'm glad I read this message again, because I really had
no idea how I could get to use POV-Ray when it kept doing like that!
