This is an excellent example of an article which should not be posted in
this group.

This group is about testing and bug-reporting about POV-Ray 3.5 beta.
Asking "when it will be ready?" helps no-one but only puts the patience of
the developers into test and is most likely to just cause angry replies which
take the attention and efforts of the people away from the important things.
And this is not all: The contents of this post is located completely in
its subject and the body of the article is empty (which is bad, among other
things, because it makes quoting hard).

Gee Warp,

When are you going to send the execution squad over to eliminate my ability
to make "improper" posts?

A simple, "please don't post these questions here" would have been
sufficient. I will make sure any future posts go to the 'general' category.

Jim

LOL if he had to do that every time someone posted 'improperly', he
would have been the only left visitor on this server (and then this is
not so certain, his execution squad script might as well send them to
himself :) )

Jim, you can't please them all, y'know. Start doing this and people
start asking what they've done wrong. It's either this or that. Would
you have rather been RTFMed instead or just shown a link to the AUP or
message stating the purpose of this group or to some site devoted to
'proper' posting? Live and rejoyce ;)

In my opinion, the current beta is really good. The POV
team could call the current beta "final" right now
and I'de be happy.

There are a few things that I consider should definitely receive
attention before it gets labelled "final":-

TIF support should either be got working or discarded.

"camera" is in an unstable state just at the moment while
it is being actively worked on. We need to wait for that
        work to be completed.

Whatever it is that "evaluate" currently does needs to be
documented. What it does since beta 7 is, apparently, very
different from what got originally documented, but I've no idea
what it is that it now does.

The "Beta-10 Linux Segmentation Fault" needs to be fixed,
otherwise our Linux brethren won't be able to use photons.

Everything else in the bugs list is pretty trivial, and we've lived with
most of them since at least version 3.1g without complaining.

Except for the partial render memory leak in PovWin. That's pretty serious
on memory-constrained systems.

Also the problem with lighting on rotated mapping warps.

And the namespace collision issues with functions and macro parameters. If
nothing else, the namespace rules and the new reserved keyword list should
be documented.

I think that's enough critical bugs to keep the developers and the testers
busy for a while yet. :-)

Convergence won't happen until the known bugs list is empty.
