I haven't seen any mention on the POV-Ray website about a beta 9 coming out,
and POV-Ray v3.5 beta 8 is set to detonate tomorrow. Any word on what will
happen tomorrow? I was kind of hoping to take my laptop home with me for
Christmas so that I could do some ray tracing when dealing with the family
gets to be too much... ;)

We are verifying the integrity of beta 9 at the moment and it *should* be
ready for release tomorrow.

You think we aren't aware of this? ;-)

I think the question on what will happen tomorrow is so obvious it doesn't
need an answer nor IMO did it have to be asking in the first place as there
is nothing unusual about the beta expiring tomorrow.

Put 3.1g on it and do stuff that works on both renderers.

Thorsten,

The rudeness of your reply is uncalled for. Ken already answered what I
thought was a legitimate question, and did so without your arrogant and
discourteous manner.

I don't think it was rude nor was it intended to be rude. If it offended
you I apologize.

The following will answer your question in more detail:

You should really read what is written on the download site, which answers
precisely your question:

>This beta version expires after December 21, 2001! By this time there will
>either be a new beta version available here or the final version of POV-Ray 3.5
>will be available.

Or either of these two messages, which both apply:

Thorsten,

Please accept MY apologies... I did not see that "Don't ask!" bit in the FAQ
section. I'm also a software developer and I understand the time pressure
that everyone on the POV-Ray team must be feeling (my company just finished
a major release of its own).

Good luck with the beta 9 release which I and other POV-Ray users eagerly
await.

"This beta version of POV-Ray for Windows has expired." But on the download
page it says "This beta version expires after December 21, 2001", and it's
only December 20 (7:13 PM, EST). What's with that?

I can confirm this with windows beta 9 (NT 4 Sp 6 on PII 233 with 128). Page
http://www.povray.org/binaries/windows/beta.html says 'This beta version expires
_after_ January 15, 2002' but it expire after January 14. Of course nothing
important for final version.
