It seems quite odd to me that Windows version is at beta 8 already but
there hasn't been a Unix version yet. Or there will be no beta versions for
unix systems?

There are considerations for a PC Linux beta version, but right now there
are only Windows and MacOS. No chance for other unix systems probably.

Well, that is good news as I'm most interested in PC Linux version anyway.
But as there are only considerations it may take beta version or two to
actually have one?

Be patient. Our Unix guy has just been through a prolonged attack of Real
Life. I've been keeping the Unix version up-to-date, but I'm not really
qualified to put together a beta release. Hopefully, we'll have something
put together for at least x86 Linux soon.
