Hi,

I did not much testing, but:

When I save a modified file under a different file, the original file is
destroyed, too. I end up with to identical files.

I remember this happened in previous versions, too, but I don't think it's a
feature ...

I can't replicate this. Can someone else confirm this, to see if it's an OS-
specific problem ? (I am only testing under 2k).

I can confirm that a save_as results in two duplicate files under Win 98.
All changes are retained across both files.

For what it is worth the behavior is the same in POV-Ray v3.1g. I wonder
why no one noticed this before.

Can you try turning Auto-Reload to 'Never' and see if it still happens ?

That changed it to the expected behavior. Bug or do I need to RTFM ?

Fixed it for me, too.

Someone warned about this behaviour some time ago on this server (in some
other context). That was the reason I did not use Save_As at all (copied the
files to the clipboard instead, closed Pov, opened a new file and pasted
from the clipboard) and checked it now. I thought it was a MegaPov issue,
though.

I have been doing a lot of exactly that thing, renaming files to
*035.pov instead of *031.pov, usually with small changes. I still have all
the old ones.

Arrggh!! I didn't check mine to see if changes were duplicated! I
misread the original post! All my old files are changed!

The file destruction was definitely true in 3.1, as it is in 3.5. I guess I
stopped noticing it when I got myself in the habit of saving the file under the
new name *before* making any changes. But now that you mention it, it would be
nice if it didn't do that.
