then,

    Failed to rename original file to .bak:
    Cannot create file when that file already exists (Ok)

then,

    failed to save file: Access denied. (Ok)

then,

    Failed to save file "Test Pad.pov" (abort retry ignore)

    I don't know how to reduplicate this problem, but it happens every time
I try to run this file that I still cannot save (so I can't include it in
this post).

    I am writing this before I restart POV so that I can copy the error
dialogs. I will let you know if I get past it.

    Win98
    Pii 400
    128 mb ram

I manually deleted the bak file and the Pov editor can work with it now.
I haven't been able to break it again.
